iBGStar is a meter connected to the iPhone created to simplify the daily lives of people with diabetes.

Connected objects are typically scheduled to meet needs more or less precise of the public. The goal is then to sell to a mass audience so in large quantities.
However, certain items are designed to target specific users, particularly in medicine.

Constantly having to carry a camera to determine his blood sugar is not easy in the diabetic's life. Therefore the appearance of the iBGStar tool was expected. This is a blood glucose meter that connects to the iPhone. The device provides a simple solution to read his blood sugar for people with diabetes.

This device is equipped with a small screen which displays the rate and a specific receiver strips. All measured data are then stored and visible from the iBGStar Diabetes Manager mobile application, available on iOS.

To use the IBGStar, the user must prick his finger with a lancet and place a drop of blood on a special test strip. Then, he inserts the strip into the meter to display the blood glucose levels.

However, iBGStar has some flaws like the fact that it is just compatible with certain Apple devices: only works with iPhone and iPod Touch with the old Apple connector. IPhone 5, 5C and 5S owners can still use the camera as long as they provide the dedicated Apple adapter.
Another drawback is that the user is forced to buy his own strips in order to use the device. (A box of 50 strips costs about 30 €).

iBGStar is available around  60 € on specialized websites. iBGStar also represent  one of the only solutions connected to the market of some 200 million people worldwide which have diabetes.

This kind of solution demonstrates the benefits of connected healthcare and opportunities to facilitate the patient's life.
